Plantat Refuge (3.130 masl)

A phenomenal height trek, from beginning to end

 Plantat Refuge (3.130 masl)

A must-see trekking in the Santiago Metropolitan Region. Located in the depths of the mythical Cajón del Maipo, at the foot of the majestic San José Volcano (5,856 meters above sea level).

To get there, we will take our vehicle to the “El Cabrerío” sector, which is characterized by having shelters for sheep breeding. From this point our trekking begins. Then, we will arrive at a place of charm called “Valle de la Engorda”, where you can see a blanket of vegetation in which the cattle feed each summer and in the background you can observe the imposing San José volcano. That’s where the El Volcán river is born, so you have to cross a couple of smaller rivers.

Then, we will take the trail that takes a considerable slope through a ravine that will lead us directly to the San José volcano.

In approximately three hours of trekking we will arrive at the Plantat Refuge, a small building dating from 1937 (built by Enrique Plantat and his sister).

Upon arriving at the Plantat Refuge, we can feel and observe the magnitude of the mountains, in the Andes Mountain Range.

This place marks the base camp for an eventual ascent to the San José volcano and is an ideal height trekking for acclimatization.

We work only with 4×4 cars equipped for the mountain (comfortable and with great capacity to travel mountain roads).

We work with groups that generally do not exceed six people per tour (which helps us provide a more personalized service, which creates a more familiar and concentrated atmosphere).

Allmountain is certified by Sernatur (Certification of Tourism Guides; Certification in Adventure Tourism, sub-areas of: High Mountain, hiking, trekking, climbing) and is registered in the Registry of Tourist Service Providers of the same institution.

Our guides are people with experience in the field and have the certifications required to work in these activities (certifications that are also being updated), such as: Wilderness First Responder Certification (WFR).

In each activity, we privilege a sustainable service: we use recyclable and organic products, we promote the principles of DLT (Don’t Leave Trace), we promote local tourism, etc.

If you want to participate in a trekking or expedition and you do not have the technical equipment to do it, Allmountain includes them within each activity (which requires it). Example: tent, crampons, ice ax, helmet, etc.
